The very cool Icom R-1500 receiver. There are 2 models of this great little radio.
The PCR-1500 provides complete control of the “black box” via computer using a supplied USB adapter. The R-1500 allows you to use a remote control head with LCD frequency and mode readout.
…the R-1500 ALSO allows you to remote the radio via software and comes with the same CD that the PCR model does
Diamonds NR770HKRS saves the day as a temporary fixed station VHF/UHF antenna.
Have a listen and feel free to join in!

Every once in a while, adversity has a way of turning into opportunity. Yesterday turned into just that scenario.
Yesterday was the day that I had planned on putting up a 40 foot long dipole at my condo (after receiving permission from the owner.)
Unfortunately, on that morning, I found out that because of several reasons that I was unable to get access to the roof any time soon.
Of course, this would stop or delay my Amateur Radio, SWL, scanning and other activities. …not to mention putting further delays on posting HamRadioCast shows.
I contacted 2 people yesterday that literally “saved the day” and got me back on the road to enjoying all sorts of RF.
In Alphabetical order, they are Jim at High Sierra Antennas and Lowell at Dressler who make some of the best active antennas short of a four-figure price tag.
After explaining my situation to both Jim and Lowell, I received 2 large packages on Wednesday. One package contained a High Sierra Tahoe Sidekick and the other a Dressler HDX-100 and HDX-2000 (1 for HF rx and the other for VHF/UHF rx.)
I am just finishing the wire runs as this is being written. I will tell you that I am impressed with the quality of both the Dressler and the High Sierra products. Fit and finish says a lot about the company behind the product and I was surprised to see the level of detail put into both of these fine products.
All three of these antennas deserve (and will get) their own reviews. I’ll be back behind the mic shortly with much more as the HamRadioCast shack finally gets its wings (…well, antennas at least.)
