On your dial

Well, this is not on your dial. It is in your playlist. Check out http://radiocaroline.servemp3.com/. Lately, I am listening to Public Safety and Radio Caroline when I am at home and checking out the internet. They also have some interesting pictures of their old Broadcasting Vessel. My friend, K1LWI, sent me the original link to Radio Caroline.

The latest as it happens!

Good morning to everyone that reads my occasional missives. I set off today at about 6:45AM for a little bike ride. I decided to abort when my friend and club leader decided that he was not going to ride. He went to his spinning class; alas, I need a spinning class to attend. Hopefully, women in spandex would accompany me to such a class. The weather release a modicum of rain, but the wind was cold and from the east. My club leader, Andy, remarked to me that it would be tough along the coast. So I decided to book and took the bike home.

Here is a picture of the torrid weather in Abington, Massachusetts, Plymouth County. This is a scene of the small pond south of Cleveland Pond. Cleveland Pond is a nice recreational facility located in Ames Nowell Park. Ames Nowell is a state park, which is just north of me. It does not offer any serious off road bicycling trails. The town park to the east is lacking in this regard. The two largest streams in town feed the ponds in Ames Nowell and Island Grove. There are many other streams and some other ponds, but most ponds are competely ignored by the residents of Abington. I am the fellow that remembers seeing people ride their horses on the streets. I also remember hitching posts, which rapidly turned into obscurity in the beginnings of my childhood during the seventies and the early eighties. I remember when the house adjacent to this stream was for sale. One of my friends remarked to me about the hydrological potential of the property would enable me to lower costs. I would fret about such issues as trivial. A stream is often in the lowest part and this stream is in the shallow of a valley. I need to be at the top. I should remark that this immediate area was one denude of housing. The houses in the community of Brockton to the west were only recently built. The original farm house with two ham towers is only four hours away from this stream. How I have wondered about the farm house at the top of valley as a potential radio location. Anyways, you can see how we have lots of water this year. During last year we had a good amount of rainfall in April and May. We had too much as the topsoil was saturated. Looks like we will be in good shape this year, again. However, last year it was nice and sunny for the Marathon on Patriot’s Day.

Patriot’s Day is tomorrow. It is a big event for many hams in the area. We provide communication support for the event. Many members of my club, the K1USN club, will serve in conjunction with RACES and other clubs. I have served in water stations or in charge of initial record keeping and communications at medical aid stations in the past. This year I have the glamorous job of parking cars and calling for the shuttle service. I fear that the Marathon shall not be cancelled and I will have to stand in the rain.

All the residents of Abington have been bewildered by the recent bizarre nature. During the past week I have travelled to various points in Abington. I can see this same flock of Turkeys running amock. They have been disturbed by the foul weather. I guess the pun was intended in that last remark. I have seen them at town hall. They voiced their complaints and condemned the rapid build-out of the town and the destruction of their habitat. They took serious umbrage to the destruction of their way of life. They actually attacked vehicles on Groveland Street, recently. I keep telling people to stay away from Groveland Street. The residents just cause such massive havoc. The birds leap out in front of oncoming traffic. After the cars come to a dead stop and sweat beating down the driver’s forehead, the turkeys begin the attack by pecking at the vehicle’s tires and grills. I saw this same pattern executed many times. The Lieutenant in charge of the action was monitoring the entire affair in the marsh; he sat ontop of a recently filled in piece of marsh actually. Behind a thin veneer of trees in the former grove lies a huge pile of dirt. He sat there immaculately, while the squad engaged in its’ mission.

Your author was not safe during these dangerous times. I attempted to photograph these attacks in order to bring intelligence about the insurgents back to Town Hall. As I stood by the road taking photographs I committed the cardinal sin. I did not watch the immediate vicinity of my person. A turkey assigned to force protection came after me. Within seconds I was being chased by the entire squad of turkeys down the street. After they pursed me out of their area of operations they disengaged from pursuit, thankfully.

I hope to see some of you at the Marathon, tommorow. I know that I can not see all of you because some of my faithful readers reside in exotic locations such as the Philippines, Colombia, Switerzland, Ukraine, or Jordan. My best wishes to everyone and remember that we all have to laugh.

His web of Sin.

I have always enjoyed the Bond films with such fondness. Recently, I was able to review an examination of British culture and the identifications made by the Bond films in the guise of non-fiction by Simond Winder entitled as The Man Who Saved Britain: A Personal Journey into the Disturbing World of James Bond. One has to remember that the United States was left intact physically after World War II with industry to grow. Britain jumped into a new world with an economy orientated for it after World War II. Winder’s book brings forth ideas of Bond as the ultimate satire akin to the A-Team in many respects.

Bond is the secret weapon of the remant British Empire. It brings news light into the books and movies. I recently watched Casino Royale. Instead of playing a more daring card game espoused in European traditon such as Skat or Baccart - which is a love professed by Bond and Flemming - Bond plays an Americanized poker. In the new world order Bond has become the ultimate weapon of Britain. Agents of the might power such as Felix Leiter are merely shadows that fetch items for the weapon.

Is Bond merely an action hero or a transcension of their former military glories by the British?
