Bicycling clubs on the South Shore

I had an opportunity to ride with the Crack O’ Dawn club out of Newton on the CRW south shore ride, last Sunday. They ride pretty fast. They also have some pretty nifty jerseys. Check out their web page at http://www.crackodawn.com/. They like to ride the Pan Mass Challenge every year as well. There are some other nifty bicycle clubs in the area as well.
The Blue Hills Cycling Club meets every morning at 6 AM for riding around the Blue Hills(Milton, MA). Check out their web page at http://www.bluehillscycling.com/. They have a bunch of good people and they have shown up at the Sunday CRW ride as well. I do not know, if people notice a trend, but the CRW Sunday Ride is the best ride for scenery in the whole area of Massachusetts. We have Four Lighthouses to see and Two windmills. Other clubs put together special rides to give you eight lighthouses, but the CRW gives you a regular club ride with four lighthouses and a few windmills just for fun. How could you not like this?
Plus, the ride goes by the homes of a whole bunch of the guys on the Quincy machine.
Another club that rides in the area is the Boston Road Club. They ride out of Hingham on Saturdays. The problem with these racers that they like to go early at 6:30 AM. Their webpage is at http://www.bostonroadclub.com/.

I finally got a card back from New Mexico. Would people please send me their QSL cards? I only have 29 states confirmed out of an almost complete set. I need Hawaii. Who doesn’t in Massachusetts? I want to get my WAS. The new QST just arrived in the mail, so I have to go read it.

Bicycling

I have been riding on the new CRW(Charles River Wheelmen) ride from West Bridgewater. It is a summer ride that starts on Thursdays at 6 PM from the park and ride lot on Route 106(West Bridgewater Rt 24). It is very flat in comparison to other rides. It makes for a fast speed and spinning. There is a core group of very enthusiast bikers. One pace goes from 15-16 and the other is pushing 19-20. I did manage one night at 19.50mph, which was very good for me!

My friend, Andy Brand, rode his 11th year in the Pan Mass Challenge. Check out his website. I sent him a donation, again. He raises a lot of money for the Jimmy Fund. He also rode a lot of miles this year and FIXED many bicycles along the way.
I have been busy working at the clubhouse for the past few weekends. I have been mopping the floors, etc. We have also been building new picnic tables for the grounds. Eight tables are almost complete and painted.

Article

Few things have happened in the doldrums of summer. The beach is pretty good. I have an article that will be published in a historical society’s magazine very soon. The magazine is at the printers.
